Why is Design and Technology important?
Design and Technology gives us the opportunity to develop new skills, knowledge and understanding of designing and making functional products whilst encouraging us to become independent, innovative learners. Through Design and Technology, we are able to work collaboratively to solve problems as it teaches us to deal with uncertainty and helps enhance our communication, organisation and practical skills.
How is Design and Technology taught?
The Design and Technology curriculum is taught through three strands of structures and mechanisms, textiles and nutrition. The key skills and knowledge have been mapped out across the school to ensure a clear progression between year groups. Design and Technology lessons are planned following a sequence: evaluation of a product, teach a new skill, design a new product, make new product, refine and improve, teach additional skill, test and evaluate.
